As the creators of Mental Health Month, Mental Health America proudly invites organizations, communities, and individuals across the country to join us in raising awareness and advancing mental health advocacy each May. What began as an initiative to bring mental wellness into mainstream conversation has grown into a nationwide movement that encourages understanding, reduces stigma, and promotes the importance of early intervention and support.

Each year, MHA develops a comprehensive Mental Health Month toolkit filled with resources, educational materials, outreach ideas, and ready-to-use content. These tools help organizations of all sizes—from schools and workplaces to community groups and health providers—engage their audiences in meaningful conversations about mental health. By sharing these materials widely, we make it easier for partners to host events, start discussions, and spread important messages about mental well-being.

Mental Health Month is built on the belief that everyone has a role in creating a culture that supports emotional health. When organizations come together to raise awareness, the impact grows exponentially. Communities become more informed, individuals feel more comfortable seeking help, and stigma slowly gives way to understanding and compassion. The collective use of MHA’s materials ensures consistency in messaging while allowing organizations to tailor content to the needs of the people they serve.

The month-long observance also highlights key issues such as prevention, early identification, access to care, and the social factors that influence mental health. By encouraging open dialogue and community engagement, Mental Health Month helps people recognize that mental health is an essential part of overall health—and that support and recovery are possible.

Ultimately, Mental Health Month is a shared effort to build a healthier, more informed society. We welcome all partners who want to join us in shining a light on mental health, using our toolkits to inspire action, educate communities, and empower individuals to take charge of their well-being. Together, we can create lasting change.
